The Arizona Diamondbacks have signed right-hander Eddie Bonine to a minor league deal.

The Arizona Diamondbacks have signed right-hander Eddie Bonine to a minor league deal, reports Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports:

Rosenthal adds that Bonine is coming off of Tommy John surgery and will earn $500,000 if he reaches the major league level. Current Diamondbacks general manager Kevin Towers was the GM of the San Diego Padres when they selected Bonine in the 23rd round of the 2003 MLB Draft.

Bonine spent the 2010 season in the bigs as a member of the Detroit Tigers. He maintained an ERA of 4.63 over 47 appearances, including one start, spanning 68 innings.

The next season the right-hander failed to return to the majors. He appeared in 11 games, including 10 starts, for the Philadelphia Phillies’ Triple-A affiliate, maintaining an ERA of 5.16. That summer it was determined that he required Tommy John surgery and he’s been recovering since.

Over parts of three seasons at the major league level Bonine owns a career ERA of 4.74. He is expected to be fully healthy when spring training rolls around.
