Outfielder Jason Bay, who reached an agreement buying out his remaining contract with the New York Mets yesterday, would be willing to re-sign with the Boston Red Sox, but signs point to the veteran preferring a team on the West Coast, reports Michael Silverman of the Boston Herald.

The Mets and Bay reached an agreement that terminated his remaining contract with the club, making him a free agent immediately upon completion. He was owed another $19 million.

Bay’s impressive 2009 campaign, his only full season with the Red Sox, helped him earn his lucrative free agent deal with the Mets. That year he hit .267/.384/.537 with 29 doubles, three triples and 36 home runs.

Since then he’s failed to hit more than 12 home runs or register more than 450 at-bats in a season. Over three years with New York, he hit .234/.318/.369.

The 34-year-old has spent 10 seasons at the major league level and owns a career line of .269/.363/.485.
