The Kansas City Royals have traded left-hander Tommy Hottovy to the Texas Rangers for a player to be named later and cash considerations.
The Royals designated Hottovy for assignment last week as part of their corresponding roster moves after they claimed right-hander Guillermo Moscoso and catcher Brett Hayes.
After making his major league debut in 2011 with the Boston Red Sox, Hottovy appeared in nine games for the Royals last season. The 31-year-old signed as a free agent last November and allowed three runs on 11 hits and five walks with six strikeouts over 9 1/3 innings of work.
Hottovy spent a majority of the 2012 season with the Royals’ Triple-A affiliate. Over 41 appearances spanning 50 innings he posted an ERA of 2.52 with an impressive 11.0 strikeouts per nine compared to 2.9 walks per nine.
Hottovy has a career ERA of 4.00 over nine seasons in the minors.
