Anibal Sanchez wants six years, $90 million

Jesse Johnson-US PRESSWIRE

Sanchez is seeking CJ Wilson-type money on the free agent market.

Free-agent right-hander Anibal Sanchez is seeking a deal in the ballpark of six years and $90 million, reports Jon Morosi of FOX Sports:

Emboldened by the right-hander’s strong postseason with the Detroit Tigers, the agent for free-agent starter Anibal Sanchez is currently asking teams for a contract in the range of six years and $90 million, multiple major-league sources told FOXSports.com.

The request works out to an average annual value of $15 million – very close to what C.J. Wilson received as the top pitcher to hit the open market last offseason.

Sanchez, 28, is largely viewed as the second-best pitcher available this winter behind Zack Greinke, putting him in a strong negotiating position. The Tigers, Red Sox, Blue Jays, Rangers and Dodgers are all said to be interested in Sanchez, according to Morosi, but it is unclear whether any of them are willing to give the right-hander the $90 million paycheck he wants.

Sanchez posted a 3.86 ERA, 2.2 BB/9 and 7.7 K/9 in thirty-three starts for the Marlins and Tigers this past season, putting together a several strong starts down the stretch and in the playoffs.
