Yankees rumors: Kevin Youkilis seriously considering offer

Jesse Johnson-US PRESSWIRE

Free agent corner infielder Kevin Youkilis is “seriously considering” the New York Yankees offer.

Free agent corner infielder Kevin Youkilis is "seriously considering" the New York Yankees one-year, $12 million contract offer, reports Wallace Matthews of ESPN New York:

According to Joe Bick, Kevin Youkilis' agent, the 33-year-old is "seriously considering" an offer from the Yankees that Bick and is client consider "very legitimate," reportedly an offer for one-year at $12 million.

Matthews adds that Youkilis is considering at least one other offer, possibly from the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Cleveland Indians had been interested in Youkilis, but they recently signed free agent slugger Mark Reynolds to man first base in 2013.

According to Youkilis’ uncle, who owns a bistro in New York City, the veteran has "always said he would love to play here someday." Youkilis would reportedly consider it an "experience like no other."

If he signs with the Yankees, Youkilis would at least start the season as the team’s regular at third base while veteran Alex Rodriguez recovers from hip surgery. However, Wallace notes that Youkilis could also be used as a fill-in at first base for Mark Teixeira and as a right-handed designated hitter to replace Andruw Jones.

Over nine seasons at the major league level Youkilis owns a career line of .283/.384/.482.
