The Rakuten Eagles of Japan's Pacific League say they are set to sign veteran major league outfielder Andruw Jones.

The Golden Eagles are playing Jones roughly $3.5 million, including signing bonus, base salary and performance bonuses, to play in Japan, according to Patrick Newman of NPB Tracker. To put this in perspective, the 35-year-old has earned $3.5 million in base salary over the past two seasons.

Jones has spent the past two seasons with the New York Yankees. Last year he hit .197/.294/.408 with seven doubles and 14 home runs over 233 at-bats while manning both corner outfield positions as well as DH.

Jones fared much better in 2011, when he hit .247/.356/.495 with eight doubles and 13 home runs over 190 at-bats with the Yankees.

Jones made his major league debut in 1996 as a 19-year-old with the Atlanta Braves. He’s spent 17 years in the majors as a member of the Braves, Los Angeles Dodgers, Texas Rangers, Chicago White Sox and Yankees. Over that span the five-time All-Star owns a career line of .254/.337/.486.
