Dodgers rumors: LA Eyeing Pirates RHP Joel Hanrahan

Jared Wickerham

The Los Angeles Dodgers have interest in Pittsburgh Pirates closer Joel Hanrahan.

The Los Angeles Dodgers have interest in Pittsburgh Pirates closer Joel Hanrahan, reports Buster Olney of ESPN:

The Dodgers have interest in Joel Hanrahan, and now that the Pirates have signed Jason Grilli, perhaps the Bucs will follow up on the talks they had with other clubs at the GM meetings, when they made it clear they would listen to offers for Hanrahan.

Olney adds that since the Pirates recently reached an agreement with late-inning reliever Jason Grilli the club could be more willing to include Hanrahan in a trade. After signing Zack Greinke and Hyun-Jin Ryu, the Dodgers have a surplus of rotation guys, and the Pirates are said to be in the market for a starter this winter, so there could be a potential match for a trade.

Hanrahan has spent the past four seasons with the Pirates after being acquired from the Washington Nationals in June of 2009 along with outfielder Lastings Milledge in exchange for Sean Burnett and Nyjer Morgan.

Hanrahan’s been Pittsburgh’s closer for the past two seasons, maintaining an ERA of 2.24 with 76 saves over 133 appearances. The 31-year-old owns a career ERA of 3.74 with 9.9 strikeouts and 4.3 walks per nine innings over six years at the major league level.
