Braves rumors: Atlanta involved in multiple trade talks

The Braves are targeting Dexter Fowler and Emilio Bonifacio, among others, in trade discussions with several clubs.

The Atlanta Braves have already made one trade this offseason – acquiring righty reliever Jordan Walden from the Angels in exchange for Tommy Hanson – and now may be on their way to making a swap for an outfielder.

The club is reportedly "involved in multiple trade talks" for an outfielder, with the RockiesDexter Fowler and Blue JaysEmilio Bonifacio believed to be among the targeted players, reports David O’Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

The trade market for outfielders has been pretty active thus far this offseason, with Shin-Soo Choo, Denard Span, and Ben Revere all changing stripes in the last month. Atlanta has already brought in B.J. Upton on a five-year deal to man center field, but are still in search of a full-time left fielder with Martin Prado moving to cover third base.

The Braves signed veteran outfielder Reed Johnson to a one-year deal during the Winter Meetings, so they do have an in-house left fielder if they cannot work out a trade, but the club’s persistence in trade discussions indicates they view the veteran as more of a fourth outfielder option.

O’Brien adds that the team made "a strong push" for Choo, who ended up with the Reds in a three-team deal, but the club decided that one year of the veteran was not worth the cost.
