The New York Mets have acquired outfielder Collin Cowgill from the Oakland Athletics in exchange for infield prospect Jefrey Marte.

The New York Mets have acquired outfielder Collin Cowgill from the Oakland Athletics in exchange for infield prospect Jefrey Marte, reports Andy Martino of the New York Daily News:

The Athletics acquired Cowgill from the Arizona Diamondbacks last winter along with Ryan Cook and Jarrod Parker in exchange for Trevor Cahill and Craig Breslow.

Over 104 at-bats or the A’s Cowgill hit .269/.336/.317 with two doubles, one home run and three stolen bases in seven attempts. The 26-year-old spent a majority of the season in Oakland’s minor league system. He hit .254/.312/.373 with 17 doubles, one triple, four home runs and eight stolen bases in 10 attempts over 260 at-bats at the Triple-A level last season.

Cowgill’s hit .255/.319/.311 over 196 career at-bats at the major league level, while posting a line of .291/.371/.470 over five years in the minors.

Marte is a 21-year-old infielder that spent the 2012 campaign with New York’s Double-A club. Over 462 at-bats he hit .251/.322/.366 with 20 doubles, three triples, nine home runs and nine stolen bases in 14 attempts while playing mostly third base.

Over five seasons in the minors Marte has hit .254/.317/.373.
