Yankees rumors: NY still seeking right-handed bat

Steve Mitchell-US PRESSWIRE

Are the Yankees still in the market for a right-handed-hitting outfielder?

Even after reaching a minor league agreement with free agent Matt Diaz, the New York Yankees are likely still in the market for a right-handed-hitting outfielder, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports.

The Yankees are currently sporting a projected outfield which includes a trio of left-handed hitters; Ichiro Suzuki, Curtis Granderson and Brett Gardner. While Diaz fits the bill of the right-handed-hitting outfielder the club has been targeting recently, Rosenthal believes the Yankees will continue pursuing other options.

Those options are slim considering we’re quickly approaching 2013. At this point Scott Hairston appears to be the best remaining fit on the free agent market, and he’s been tied to New York this offseason. The 32-year-old hit .263/.299/.504 with 25 doubles and 20 home runs last season for the New York Mets.

Beyond Hairston, the Yankees have also been tied Jeff Baker, who spent the 2012 season with the Chicago Cubs, Detroit Tigers, and Atlanta Braves. Other right-handed-hitting outfielders that remain on the free agent market include Ben Francisco, Delmon Young, Juan Rivera and Ryan Raburn.
