• The Tigers re-signed free agent right-hander Anibal Sanchez earlier this month.
• Following the acquisition of Sanchez, rumors began to fly as Detroit was left with six starting pitchers for five rotation spots. Reports of the team’s willingness to trade Rick Porcello and Drew Smyly began to surface.
• The Pittsburgh Pirates and Los Angeles Angels were both tied to Porcello.
• The Tigers have also been tied to veteran closing candidates this winter with Jose Valverde hitting the free agent market.
