Red Sox rumors: Dustin Pedroia wants to spend whole career in Boston

The MVP second baseman wants to be a Fenway lifer.

Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia said in a radio interview Thursday night that he has not heard from his agents in regards to a contract extension, but that he would like to stay with Boston for the remainder of his career, reports Alex Speier of WEEI:

"I don’t think [extension talks are as of yet] anywhere. I haven’t talked to my agents that much," said Pedroia. "I saw [the report that the Sox would like to discuss an extension]. That definitely, it made me smile.

"Obviously, I want to be a Red Sox my whole career and play in that city, turn this whole thing around to get back to where we were my first couple years there."

Pedroia, 29, added that he does believe the club has contacted his agents about an extension at this time. The stocky second baseman is currently entering the fifth year of a six-year, $40.5 million deal he signed following his MVP season in 2008. The contract also includes an $11 million club option for the 2015 season.

The righty slugger has battled through some leg and hand injuries over the past few seasons, but has still been as reliable as ever at the plate, hitting .296/.369/.462 with 63 home runs in the last four years.

Pedroia is a client of ACES, the agency that recently oversaw the eight-year, $138 million extension David Wright received from the New York Mets.
