Kim Klement-US PRESSWIRE
Here's a roundup of all the recent news and notes regarding the Kansas City Royals.
Is it one of the worst moves of the off-season? It just might be.
- One reason for the opposition to this trade is the Royals lack of options in right field. Jeff Francoeur is the current starter there and after a .235/.287/.378 performance last year. It is easier to understand the trade rumors surrounding him than the Royals willingness to stick with him.
- The addition of Shields and Davis is not the only move the Royals have made as they attempt to upgrade the rotation. They re-signed Jeremy Guthrie giving the righty a three year, $25M deal. Guthrie started fourteen games for the Royals last year after coming over from the Rockies with solid a 3.16 ERA in his time in Kansas City.
- They also made a play for Ryan Dempster, offering the free agent a two year, $26M deal, but he rejected the offer in favor of the Red Sox.
- Beyond the trade with the Rays, it has been largely minor deals for the Royals. They signed Xavier Nady to a minor league deal along with Willy Taverez, and relievers George Sherrill and Dan Wheeler.
