Giants, Angel Pagan agree to deal

Ezra Shaw

The San Francisco Giants and free agent outfielder Angel Pagan have agreed to a four-year deal to bring the center fielder back to the Bay.

Update 4:11 PM ET: It is indeed a four-year deal, according to Tim Brown of Yahoo! Sports. Pagan will earn $40 million over that span.

Original Story: The San Francisco Giants are close to re-signing free agent center fielder Angel Pagan, who helped the team win the World Series last year, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports. While no details of the contract have been reported, the deal is presumably for four seasons, if recent reports are any indication.

The Philadelphia Phillies, who have already missed out on B.J. Upton, were also in on the Pagan sweepstakes and seen as San Francisco's biggest competitor.

For the Giants, the team brings back one of their World Series heroes as they look to make another run at the championship next season. At 31 years of age, Pagan turned in one of his better offensive showings, batting .288/.338/.440 in 659 plate appearances last season.

San Francisco bought low on Pagan, acquiring the outfielder last offseason from the New York Mets in exchange for reliever Ramon Ramirez and recently non-tendered outfielder Andres Torres.
