Mariners rumors: Justin Upton, Josh Hamilton, Brennan Boesch

Seattle is hoping the new drawn-in fences at Safeco can pique the interest of a few slugging outfielders.

The Seattle Mariners may be looking to make a big outfield splash in Nashville. Seattle met with the Arizona Diamondbacks about acquiring outfielder Justin Upton Monday night, and are showing interest in Josh Hamilton and Brennan Boesch, report Jon Heyman and Danny Knobler of CBS Sports:

Upton does have the Mariners on his limited no-trade clause, but could potentially waive the clause if talks continue. The D'Backs outfielder is coming off a relatively disappointing 2012 season in which he hit .280/.355/.430 with 17 home runs in 150 games.

Upton is just 25 years old and still has MVP potential, which means he will draw a very high price in any trade. He is currently in the middle of a 6-year, $50 million deal that will end in 2015.

Hamilton is still being courted by the Rangers, who may be his most aggressive suitor. Regardless of the baggage and injury concerns that Hamilton brings, the Mariners are in definite need for offense and Hamilton would fit the bill.

While he wil not make as much of an impact, Boesch could also be a nice corner outfield pickup for the Mariners as a companion to Hamilton or Upton. The 27-year-old appears to the odd man out in the Tigers' outfield, so Detroit is believed to be shopping the lefty slugger.

With the report of both Upton and Hamilton talks on the Mariners' menu, it seems the splash in the AL West may come from the team up north. Seattle certainly has the available prospects to get a deal done with the D'Backs and a small enough bankroll to absorb the contract demands of Hamilton.
