Kevin Youkilis rumors: Free agent weighing multiple offers

Free agent corner infielder Kevin Youkilis is attracting interest from a number of teams and has multiple contract offers on the table.

Free agent corner infielder Kevin Youkilis is attracting interest from a number of teams and has multiple contract offers on the table, reports Alex Speier of WEEI.com:

Kevin Youkilis is attracting interest from a number of teams. According to multiple industry sources, he has multiple contract offers on the table.

Speier notes the factors that the market is "bereft of available third baseman," Youkilis can man first and third base and he won’t cost a draft pick all add to the interest he is generating.

After hitting a very un-Youkilis-like .233/.315/.377 over 146 at-bats for the Boston Red Sox and getting called out by his manager, the 33-year-old was traded to the Chicago White Sox for Brent Lillibridge and Zack Stewart (both players were later designated for assignment by Boston).

While he struggled in Boston, Youkilis was able to rebound with the White Sox, hitting .236/.346/.425 with eight doubles and 15 home runs over 292 at-bats. Over nine seasons at the major league level he’s hit .283/.384/.482.

Speier adds that the New York Yankees could be one potential fit for Youkilis, considering the news of Alex Rodriguez’s hip injury that required surgery and will cause him to miss time during the 2013 season.
