Mariners rumors: Seattle interested in Cody Ross

Joy R. Absalon-US PRESSWIRE

The Seattle Mariners are among the teams interested in free agent outfielder Cody Ross.

The Seattle Mariners are among the teams interested in free agent outfielder Cody Ross, reports Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports:

Ross has taken a back seat to fellow free agent outfielders this winter. There was a run on center fielders starting last weekend and into the winter meetings, as B.J. Upton, Shane Victorino and Angel Pagan signed new contracts and the Minnesota Twins dealt Ben Revere to the Philadelphia Phillies.

The corner outfield market continues to develop at a slow pace, and free agent Josh Hamilton is a major contributing factor. There were initial reports that he was seeking a seven-year contract, and at the meetings it came out that teams had as few as three guaranteed years on the table for the enigma.

The Mariners have been one of the major pursuers of offense this winter, as they’ve been tied to nearly every potential impact bat on the market, including Hamilton.

Ross is coming off an impressive campaign with the Boston Red Sox. After signing a one-year contract with the club last offseason the outfielder hit .267/.326/.481 with 34 doubles and 22 home runs over 476 at-bats. The 31-year-old owns a career line of .262/.324/.460.
