R.A. Dickey and the Mets have reached some common ground in their extension talks, according to Marc Craig of Newsday.

The team and the knuckleballer have apparently come to terms on the length and structure of the contract, with Dickey giving the Mets several options to work with. However, the dollar amount remains a sticking point and Craig notes that sources tell him all options are still open.

The Texas Rangers, Boston Red Sox and Kansas City Royals have all been connected to trade rumors, but the price tag for Dickey remains prohibitively high. The Royals are unwilling to give up top prospect Wil Myers for the NL Cy Young Winner and Bostonbalked at sending prospects Xander Bogaerts and Jackie Bradley to New York for him. The Blue Jays are the latest team connected to Dickey and with their strong collection of young catchers they could be a good fit for the Mets, but Travis D’Arnaud may be off the table.

The Mets could step away from extension talks and still keep Dickey, who is owed $5M next season, the final year of his current contract. Mets GM Sandy Alderson has said this not the "optimal result," but it could be the only option if Dickey’s price tag or the Mets trade demands don’t come back down to earth.
