Nationals, Edwin Jackson Agree To Deal
Update 1:53 PM ET: Jon Heyman of CBS Sports is now reporting the deal is worth between $8-$12 million.
1:45 PM ET: It's a one-year deal for the Scott Boras client, reports Amanda Comak of the Washington Times.
1:39 PM ET: Spotted in the airport heading for his physical, Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports the free-agent has finally found a new place to call home, this time with the Washington Nationals.
Following up the trade for Gio Gonzalez, the Nationals are finally in win-now mode and have put together an excellent rotation one-through-five with: Stephen Strasburg, Gio Gonzalez, Edwin Jackson, Jordan Zimmermann and either Chien-Ming Wang or John Lannan in the fifth slot. A trade could be imminent for Lannan now, who is owed $5 million in 2012.
Meanwhile for Edwin Jackson, he gets an opportunity to play on what now seems like a contender in the NL East and an opportunity to re-test the open market at season's end. It's worth mentioning the right-handed pitcher did turn a couple of multi-year offers, and Jackson didn't take them either because of the money or the team.
