The Los Angeles Angels and free agent pitcher Greg Smith have agreed to a minor league contract, according to Matt Eddy of Baseball America. Smith last appeared in the majors in 2010 with the Colorado Rockies.

The 28-year-old is presumably best remembered for his roles in two major trades. In 2007, Smith was acquired by the Oakland Athletics from the Arizona Diamondbacks in the deal that sent Dan Haren to the desert. The next year, he made 32 starts for Oakland and posted a solid 4.16 ERA in 190 innings.

Following that boost in his value, Billy Beane shipped Smith to the Colorado Rockies as part of the Matt Holliday trade in November of 2008. He spent a couple years in the Rockies organization, making eight brutal starts for the big league club in 2010. Since then, he's bounced around Triple-A, most recently posting a 4.51 ERA in 81 innings split between affiliates from Boston and New York.
