Padres to Sign Jeff Suppan to Minor League Deal
The San Diego Padres are nearing a deal to sign Jeff Suppan, according to the team. It would be a minor league deal and will include an invite to Spring Training.
Suppan, 37, has 16 seasons as a pro under his belt and has played for the Royals, Cardinals, Red Sox, Brewers, Diamondbacks, and the Pirates. He's holds a career 4.69 ERA and has earned nearly 13 wins above replacement throughout his career -- though that number has been coming down the past few years as he's been worth negative value to his clubs.
He pitched 100 innings at a 3.84 ERA clip for the Brewers and Cardinals in 2011.

he looked pretty OK in spring training for the Giants last year
but I always had a sinking feeling he would have been like Wellemeyer once the season opened. Maybe going back to the midwest will help him. Corn-fed pitching!
