The Philadelphia Phillies have begun their spring training games in Clearwater, here are some notes around them as the season inches closer.
- Jim Salisbury from Comcast Sports Net Philadelphia reports that first baseman Ryan Howard could be out until June with the Achilles injury he suffered in the NLCS vs the St. Louis Cardinals last season. His foot is in a walking boot and will remain in one for a week or more.
- Matt Gelb from Philly.com talks about Scott Elarton, who has not pitched in the majors since 2008 and is looking to win a spot in the Phillies rotation.
- Dave Scheiber from Fox Sports Florida writes about the comeback trail for Phillies pitcher Dontrelle Willis, who is on the comeback trail after stops in Detroit, Arizona and Cincinnati.
- Marc Hulet from FanGraphs ranks the MLB farm systems, and he ranks the Phillies as the 20th best in baseball with their top draft prospect being Larry Green.
