Rays Not Interested in Ivan Rodriguez

Stay connected for news and updates

Buster Olney from ESPN reports via tweet that the Tampa Bay Rays are not pursuing free agent catcher Ivan Rodriguez. The Rays are interested in acquiring a catcher to back up Jose Molina after trading John Jaso to Seattle this off season.

Rodriguez, 40, has spent the past two seasons with the Washington Nationals after a one year stint in Texas in 2009, playing with the Texas Rangers and Houston Astros. The New York Mets have been interested in Rodriguez this off season as well, but rumors for the Rays had picked up within the past week.

Rodriguez is currently a free agent and he is looking to play somewhere where he can get a decent amount of playing time, like Washington where he seemed to be a really good fit. With the Rays now out of the hunt, the only team that we have heard about with interest is the Mets.
