Dan Connolly of the Baltimore Sun reports that the Indians are interested in signing free agent left-hander Mike Gonzalez.
Gonzalez, 33, put up a 4.39 ERA and 8.6 K/9 in 53.1 innings split between the Orioles and the Rangers last season, down from his career averages of 2.94 ERA and 10.3 K/9.
Cleveland's pursuit the reliever is largely dependent on the health of late inning reliever Rafael Perez and closer Chris Perez, neither of whom have pitched this spring.
Rafael Perez, who has been battling soreness in his left shoulder, threw a simulated game today and should return to the bullpen very soon.
Chris Perez has a little further to go in his recovery from a strained left oblique, but threw his second bullpen of the spring today.
Barring any setbacks, both relievers are expected to be ready by Opening Day. If either has a hiccup in their recovery however, expect talks with Gonzalez to heat up.
