Andrew Baggerly from CSN Bay Area reports that that as the Friday deadline creeps up, the talks between the San Francisco Giants and the representatives of right handed pitcher Matt Cain have accelerated. The deadline on Friday is considered soft, but Cain has stated that he does want talks to wrap up before the Giants season opener.

Cain has not lowered his asking price, nor his agents, according to sources. It is believed that he is looking for a five year deal worth near $100 million. Cain would be one of the top free agent pitchers this off season along with Cole Hamels on the Philadelphia Phillies.

Cain has an ERA of 1.42 this Spring, showing that he has not been distracted in his Cactus League starts. It is not known how much the Giants have offered Cain, but it would likely be lower than what he requested, seeing he has not yet signed.
