Jerry Cransick from ESPN reports that baseball officials from around the league are convinced that free agent right handed pitcher Roy Oswalt will sign with the Texas Rangers this week.
Oswalt has thrown bullpen sessions for the Boston Red Sox and Philadelphia Phillies, but during the off season he had been adamant about joining either the Rangers or the St. Louis Cardinals.
Cransick's report had a quote from a baseball official, saying that another team in the league would have to greatly outbid the Texas Rangers to prevent Oswalt from signing there.
Oswalt spent most of his career with the Houston Astros and is from the south, so he would prefer to pitch there. The Rangers did not have as much of a need for pitching this off season, but they do now with Neftali Feliz on the disabled list. Other teams interested are the Red Sox, Phillies, Baltimore Orioles and Los Angeles Dodgers.
