Teams looking for starting pitching help should pick up the phone, call the Arizona Diamondbacks and ask for Joe Saunders, reports Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports. Rosenthal says the Diamondbacks want to call up top pitching prospect Trevor Bauer but right now there is no room for him in their rotation. So far this season, the New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox, Detroit Tigers, Toronto Blue Jays, St. Louis Cardinals and Texas Rangers are some of the teams that have been tied to pitching.
Bauer, who entered the year ranked the ninth best prospect in the game by Baseball America, has been impressive this season in the minors. The 21-year-old posted an ERA and WHIP of 1.68 and 1.221 over his eight starts with the Diamondbacks Double-A affiliate. Bauer was recently promoted to Triple-A where he’s been nearly as impressive, 1.97 ERA and 1.219 WHIP.
Saunders signed a one-year, $6 million deal this off-season to return to the Diamondbacks. The 30-year-old left-hander has been solid for Arizona, maintaining an ERA and WHIP of 3.65 and 1.348 with 5.7 SO/9 and 2.2 BB/9 over his 11 starts.
