The Oakland Athletics selected Florida product Addison Russell with the eleventh-overall draft pick in this year's draft, and according to Jason Blakeney of Pensacola News Journal, the two sides have agreed to a signing bonus and a deal should be completed in the coming days.
The reason for the holdup, as explained by the high school senior, are just formalities such as meeting with the A's ownership and adviser/agent Scott Boras reviewing the contract. Russell confirmed to Blakeney of PNJ the bonus he signed for at least the MLB recommended slot bonus valued at $2.625 million.
"They offered me a good chunk of change," Russell said, declining to go into specifics. "And my parents are all down for it. They're down with the California weather, so we're ready to go."
MLB.com evaluated Russell as a player who "should profile very well as an every-day third baseman when all is said and done."
