The Atlanta Braves have optioned right-hander Julio Teheran back to Triple-A. To replace Teheran on their roster, the Braves have recalled right-hander Cory Gearrin.

Teheran made his 2012 debut for the Braves Saturday, starting their contest against the Toronto Blue Jays in place of the injured Tim Hudson. Teheran surrendered four runs on four hits and a walk over his 4 1/3 innings pitched. Teheran struck out five and threw 48 of his 74 pitches for strikes.

Entering the year ranked as Baseball America’s fifth overall prospect, Teheran has spent a majority of the season pitching for the Braves Triple-A affiliate. Over his 11 starts for Triple-A Gwinnett, Teheran has maintained an ERA and WHIP of 3.15 and 1.344 with 7.1 SO/9 and 3.5 BB/9.

Gearrin has also spent the year pitching for Gwinnett. Used in relief, Gearrin has maintained an ERA and WHIP of 1.65 and 0.918 with 10.5 SO/9 and 2.2 BB/9 over his 32 2/3 innings. Gearrin, 26, made his major league debut last season, posting an ERA and WHIP of 7.85 and 1.582 over his 18 appearances spanning 18 1/3 innings.
