The Atlanta Braves have designated veteran right-hander Livan Hernandez for assignment, according to the team’s official Twitter feed.

Hernandez, 37, made 18 appearances out of the Braves bullpen this season, amassing a 4.94 ERA and allowing five home runs in 31 innings of work.

Though his fastball has topped out at around 85mph for the last decade, Hernandez has survived 17 big league seasons, averaging 216 innings pitched and a 4.14 ERA per season since 1998.

Reliever Kris Medlen has been recalled from Triple-A Gwinnert to take Hernandez’s place in the bullpen. Medlen had been demoted two weeks ago in an attempt to stretch his arm out and return to the club as part of the starting rotation, but Mike Minor and Randall Delgado have picked up the slack since then, putting Medlen back in the bullpen.
