The Washington Nationals continue to have interest in center fielders Peter Bourjos and Denard Span, according to Bill Ladson of MLB.com. The Nationals have been tied to Bourjos (Los Angeles Angels) and Span (Minnesota Twins) for some time. These rumors are expected to continue as a baseball source told Ladson the Nationals do not view rookie Bryce Harper as the long-term solution in center field.
While the source indicated the Nationals do maintain interest in Bourjos and Span, he also said there haven’t been any talks between the Nationals and Angels or Nationals and Twins. The baseball source added that he wouldn’t be surprised if nothing happened until the offseason.
The Nationals have been looking for their long-term solution in center for some time now. Beyond Bourjos and Span, the Nationals had been previously tied to B.J. Upton of the Tampa Bay Rays and Baltimore Orioles center fielder Adam Jones. Once the Jones extension was announced, it also came out that the Nationals had an offer on the table for the center fielder last offseason.
