The San Francisco Giants find themselves four games back of the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NL West on the 2nd day of June. There's still lots of time, as we know, to climb the standings, and good news for the Giants is that they have reinforcements coming. Let's take a look at the latest news and notes from the Bay area...
- Giants closer Santiago Casilla had to leave the game yesterday due to an apparent knee injury and underwent an MRI. According to Mindi Bach of CSN Bay Area, Casilla's MRI results revealed bruised right knee above the tibia and is only day-to-day.
- Third baseman Pablo Sandoval begins his minor league assignment tonight down in Class Single-A San Jose as he tries to return from a broken bone in his left hand. It's likely he will only be able to swing left-handed upon his return, writes Andrew Baggarly of CSN Bay Area.
- After signing with the Giants in mid-May, Penny will look to make a return to the big leagues as the club's long reliever, writes Andrew Baggarly of CSN Bay Area. Penny will be down in Class Triple-A Fresno to make his way back to the majors.
