The Philadelphia Phillies have placed catcher Brian Schneider on the 15-day disabled list with a right ankle sprain, reports Todd Zolecki of MLB.com. In a corresponding roster move the Phillies have recalled catcher Erik Kratz from Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

Schneider left Philadelphia’s Sunday night loss to the Tampa Bay Rays following a collision at home plate. His right ankle got caught underneath him during his run-in with Rays infielder Sean Rodriguez.

Schneider stayed in the game long enough to catch one more pitch from starter Cliff Lee before he removed himself from the game.

Schneider has been the Phillies backup catcher for much of the past three seasons. Over his 69 at-bats with the club this year, the 35-year-old has hit at a clip of .232/.293/.362 with two home runs, three doubles and five RBIs.

Kratz has appeared in five games this season for the Phillies, collecting one hit, a home run, over his four at-bats. The 32-year-old has spent much of the season with the Phillies Triple-A affiliate, where he’s hit .266/.326/.540 with eight home runs, 10 doubles and 30 RBIs over his 124 at-bats.
