The Toronto Blue Jays have signed veteran left-hander Jamie Moyer to a minor league contract, reports Shannon Drayer of ESPN Seattle. Moyer has pitched for the Colorado Rockies and Baltimore Orioles’ Triple-A affiliate this season.

After undergoing Tommy John surgery in December of 2010, Moyer was forced to miss the 2011 season due to injury. While season-ending surgery could be career-ending surgery for a 24-year veteran, the 49-year-old returned to baseball this season after spending 2011 as an analyst for ESPN.

Moyer signed a minor league deal with the Rockies this January and broke camp as a member of Colorado’s starting rotation. He went on to post an ERA and WHIP of 5.70 and 1.733 over his 10 starts before being released by the Rockies on June 4.

Two days later the left-hander reached a minor league agreement with the Orioles. Moyer held Triple-A hitters to three earned runs over his 16 innings of work including 16 strikeouts and no walks. However, Baltimore did not call the veteran up and he requested his release, which the Orioles granted this weekend.

Now it appears Moyer has caught on with another American League East club. The Blue Jays have been picking up arms for much of the past week after losing three starting pitchers, Drew Hutchinson, Brandon Morrow and Kyle Drabek, to injury within the span of a few days.
