After incurring another setback, the St. Louis Cardinals have released reliever Scott Linebrink reports Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com. The move opens up a spot on the 40-man roster as the club called-up pitcher Joe Kelly to start on Sunday, taking Jaime Garcia's turn in the rotation. Garcia has been shut down for a month with left shoulder impingement.

The 35-year-old Scott Linebrink had been making his way back from right shoulder inflammation but was recently dealing with biceps tendinitis. The right-handed reliever hasn't thrown a pitch this year after earning the last bullpen spot in the Cardinals bullpen out of spring training. Linebrink joined the Cardinals this past off-season on a minor league deal.

The twelve year veteran posted a 3.64 ERA across 54 1/3 innings of work along with a 7.0 K/9, 3.5 BB/9 and 9.6 H/9 last year for the Atlanta Braves. Now a free-agent, he could join another team on a minor league deal for the remainder of the year.
