To replace Bautista on their roster, the Blue Jays have called up top prospect Anthony Gose from Triple-A.
Davidi adds that while there's no immediate word on the severity of Bautista's injury, inflammation is "better" than a strain or tear.
Bautista injured his wrist during last night’s contest against the New York Yankees. The slugger fouled off a David Robertson pitch and dropped to the ground, clutching his wrist.
Bautista’s injury represents a significant blow to the Blue Jays, who are fighting to stay in American League playoff picture. On the year, Bautista hit at a clip of .244/.360/.534 with 14 doubles, 27 home runs and 65 RBIs. He posted an OPS of 1.158 in the month of June.
Gose entered the season ranked as the 39th-best prospect in MLB by Baseball America. The 21-year-old has hit at a clip of .292/.375/.432 with 18 doubles, 10 triples and five home runs for the Blue Jays’ Triple-A affiliate.
