Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Justin Upton will be traded this summer or in the off-season, reports Bob Nightengale of USA Today. Nightengale also notes Arizona plans to trade shortstop Stephen Drew "by the end of the month."
Upton will be traded. The only question is whether it's now or during the winter.
The Diamondbacks need a shortstop and third baseman, with plans to trade shortstop Stephen Drew by the end of the month.
Nightengale says the Diamondbacks have spoken with the Seattle Mariners, but reports the M’s aren’t willing to part with infielders Dustin Ackley or Kyle Seager, or any of their "prized trio of pitching prospects," including Taijuan Walker, Danny Hultzen and James Paxton.
Nightengale also notes that the Detroit Tigers and Texas Rangers could be a fit for Upton, though the Tigers reportedly have top third base prospect Nick Castellanos listed as unavailable. He believes Upton to Texas would work this off-season if the Rangers don’t re-sign free agent-to-be Josh Hamilton.
