There have been rumors of a trade between the Nationals and Rays that would send outfielder B.J. Upton to Washington in exchange for slugger Mike Morse, reports Jim Bowden of ESPN:
There have been rumors of a B.J. Upton for Michael Morse deal, too. This is a trade that would give the Rays an improvement in the middle of their lineup and a player they can control beyond this year. The Nats could put Upton in center and move Bryce Harper to the corner outfield where he belongs. However, that rumor has been denied by a Rays executive.
Bowden does note that a Rays’ executive shot the rumor down, but the Nationals have had their eye on athletics center fielders, including Upton, for some time now.
Danny Knobler of CBSSports.com also had a few Rays’ rumors to offer yesterday. He said the club could trade any starting pitcher not named David Price or Matt Moore, plus Upton and a few of their relievers. In return, Knobler noted Tampa Bay was seeking a young catcher and pitchers.
Rays are a fascinating team to watch. Could trade starters (anyone but Price, Moore), relievers, Upton. Looking for young catcher, pitchers
