The Chicago Cubs are still working to trade right-hander Ryan Dempster "ASAP," according to Jayson Stark of ESPN:
#Cubs still working to trade Ryan Dempster ASAP. One source says Red Sox are officially out on Dempster, still in on Matt Garza
— Jayson Stark (@jaysonst) July 19, 2012
A source tells Stark that the Red Sox are out on Dempster, but they are "still in" on Cubs right-hander Matt Garza.
There’s been talk that the Cubs are hoping to trade Dempster sooner than later so as not to impact the market for fellow starter Matt Garza. Stark reported yesterday that Chicago was working on dealing the veteran "by the end of the week."
This weekend it was reported by Bruce Levine of ESPNChicago.com that there were 10 teams in on Dempster, including the Los Angeles Dodgers, Cleveland Indians, Detroit Tigers, New York Yankees, Chicago White Sox and Atlanta Braves.
Rosenthal reported yesterday that Chicago was "exchanging names" with several teams, including the Braves, Dodgers, Tigers and Red Sox.
Dempster has maintained an impressive ERA and WHIP of 1.86 and 1.022 on the season. The 35-year-old is owed $14 million this year and will hit free agency following the season.

What would be the best fit for Dempster?
