The New York Mets designated right-handed pitcher Miguel Batista for assignment prior to Sunday's afternoon game the Los Angeles Dodgers, reports Matt Ehalt of ESPN New York. The move comes one day after Batista turned in just three innings of work for the Mets in a start on Saturday.

"Hopefully he clears [waivers] and decides to stay and goes down and pitches a little bit more," manager Terry Collins said Sunday before the Mets faced the Dodgers.

Batista, 41, posted a 4.82 ERA across 46 2/3 innings of work along with a 6.6 K/9 and 6.0 BB/9 over 30 appearances for the Mets this season.

With three starters on the disabled list, the Mets need to find pitchers through the trade market. I took a look at some potential targets here. The Mets called up right-handed reliever Elvin Ramirez from their Triple-A affiliate in Buffalo as the team's corresponding roster move.
