Aaron Cunningham has officially cleared waivers and the outfielder has been outrighted to Class Triple-A Columbus, the Cleveland Indians announced today (via Twitter).

After winning Tuesday's game with a squeeze bunt, the Indians designated Aaron Cunningham for assignment the following day (three days ago) to make room on their roster for recently acquired infielder Brent Lillibridge, who would be playing for his third different team this year.

While the 26-year-old Cunningham is a good defender in the outfield, he just simply couldn't hit enough at the big league level, evident by a triple slash line of .175/.245/.247 in 109 plate appearances. He will head down to the minors for the first time since 2011 and hope to earn his way back to the big leagues. Certainly a possibility once the rosters expand in September.
