Still hearing Wigginton to Yankees is a distinct possibility before 4 pm.— Matt Gelb (@magelb) July 31, 2012
Joel Sherman of the NY Post disagrees with Gelb, reporting that a deal for Wigginton would be "highly unlikely" because the Yankees value defense over offense at the position.
Sherman adds that if the Yankees do not add anyone at the deadline and determine they do need to add outside help, it is very likely that Wigginton will be available on waivers in August.
Should the Yankees acquire a third baseman via trade or waivers?
