As the Los Angeles Dodgers continue to look at first base options, Buster Olney of ESPN believes slugger Russell Branyan, who’s currently with the New York Yankees, could be a fit.

The Dodgers were recently rebuffed by Carlos Lee as they attempted to acquire the veteran from the Houston Astros. LA has said that they’d rather spend money than prospects to acquire talent this season, but Branyan doesn’t figure to require much of either.
Branyan hasn’t made his major league debut yet this season, instead spending the year in the Yankees’ minor league system. The 36-year-old has spent most of the year with New York’s Triple-A affiliate, though he’s also appeared in a few games for their High-A club.
Over his 102 at-bats in Triple-A this season, Branyan has hit at a clip of .304/.442/.676 with 11 home runs, five doubles and 36 RBIs.
While the veteran slugger struggled last season to the tune of a .665 OPS, Branyan did hit 31 and 25 home runs during the 2009-10 seasons.
