The Los Angeles Dodgers have designated veteran outfielder Bobby Abreu to make room on their roster for outfielder Shane Victorino, the team has announced:

— Los Angeles Dodgers (@Dodgers) August 1, 2012@dodgers today designated outfielder Bobby Abreu for assignment as Shane Victorino was added to the active roster.
The Dodgers acquired Victorino yesterday from the Philadelphia Phillies in exchange for pitchers Josh Lindblom and Ethan Martin. Over 387 at-bats for the Phillies, Victorino hit at a clip of .261/.324/.401 with 17 doubles, nine home runs and 40 RBIs.
Abreu was released by the Los Angeles Angels in late April, but reached an agreement with the Dodgers soon after. The 38-year-old only collected five hits over 25 at-bats with the Angels, and hit at a clip of .251/.359/.341 with 11 extra-base hits for the Dodgers.
A 17-year veteran, Abreu owns a career OPS of .873.
