- The Houston Astros promoted one of their top prospects, outfielder George Springer, to Class Double-A yesterday, as reported by MLB.com's Brian McTaggart. The Astros selected Springer with their top pick in the 2011 draft. The 22-year-old batted filled up his stat line, batting .316/.398/ .557 with 22 home runs and 28 stolen bases. He did strikeout 131 times, though.
- Left-handed pitcher Zach Dodson of the Pittsburgh Pirates farm system has been suspended 50 games for a second violation of drug abuse, reports Rob Biertempfel the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. The 22-year-old is currently with Pittsburgh's Class A affiliate.
- The Chicago Cubs promoted prospect Jorge Soler to Single-A on Thursday, and Doug Padilla of ESPN Chicago believes that Albert Almora, the Cubs top pick in the 2012 draft, could be the next to be promoted.
