Right-hander Brandon McCarthy will be activated from the disabled list by the Oakland Athletics in time to make tonight’s start against the Chicago White Sox, reports James Walker of MLB.com:

Life has been good for the Oakland A's for the past six weeks, and it has a chance to get better if right-hander Brandon McCarthy, who starts the opener of a three-game series against the White Sox on Friday at U.S. Cellular Field, comes back from a stay on the disabled list at the same level he was performing before he got hurt.

McCarthy made it through a twenty-three-pitch bullpen session Wednesday without experiencing any issues, putting him in line to start tonight’s contest for the A’s.

It will be the 29-year-old’s first start for Oakland since June 19, as he’s been sidelined due to lingering shoulder issues. These injury problems have already caused McCarthy to spend two separate stints on the DL this season.

When McCarthy has been able to take the mound for the A’s he’s been impressive. Over twelve starts spanning seventy-eight innings, he’s maintained an ERA of 2.54 with 6.0 SO/9 and 2.2 BB/9.
