The Texas Rangers have reinstated right-handed reliever Mark Lowe from the disabled list and designated infielder Alberto Gonzalez for assignment, according to Richard Durrett of ESPN Dallas. The transaction starts a 10 day clock for the Rangers to trade, release or waive Gonzalez to the minor leagues.

The team needed to make room on their roster for Lowe, who had been on the disabled list since late June, which explains why Gonzalez was designated for assignment.

The 29-year-old infielder batted .241/.241/.315 in just 55 plate appearances over 24 games. He hit for three extra base hits and didn't draw a single walk in his time with the Rangers this year. On the other hand, Mark Lowe's return adds even more depth to the Rangers bullpen. The 29-year-old Texas native was pitching well before landing on the disabled list, posting a 2.30 ERA across 31 1/3 innings of work.
