Here's the latest news involving major leaugers currently on rehab assignments:
- San Francisco Giants third baseman Pablo Sandoval just started his rehab assignment Friday, but could be back with the big club by Monday, according to Quinn Roberts of MLB.com.
- Brett Anderson of the Oakland Athletics pitched six scoreless innings of three-hit ball in his most recent rehab start at Triple-A Sacramento, reports Johnny Doskow of MiLB.com. He struck out four and walked one.
- Milwaukee Brewers starter Shaun Marcum gave up a solo home run over three innings while striking out three in his rehab start for Class-A Wisconsin, reports Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
- Boston Red Sox reliever Andrew Bailey pitched in back-to-back games for Triple-A Pawtucket. He pitched a scoreless inning, recording two strikeouts, and hit 94 mph with his fastball, reports Alex Speier of WEEI.
- John Shipley of the Pioneer Press reported Trevor Plouffe could also be returning to the majors Monday. The Minnesota Twins third baseman is playing with the Triple-A Rochester Red Wings this weekend. Shipley also noted Carl Pavano is slated to start for Class-A Fort Myers Sunday.
- Robert Hernandez (formerly Fausto Carmoa) had a strong outing at Triple-A Columbus Friday, giving up one run on four hits over seven innings. Cleveland Indians manager Manny Acta said Hernandez is likely to be called up sometime next week, according to Nick Camino of Newsradio WTAM 1100.
- Jhoulys Chacin will start today for Triple-A Colorado Springs and could earn his spot back in the Colorado Rockies' rotation if he performs well, according to Troy E. Renck of the Denver Post.
- Baltimore Orioles utility player Ryan Flaherty is close to being ready for a rehab assignment, reports Brittany Ghiroli of MLB.com.
