Last night Jered Weaver's streak of nine consecutive wins came to an end, giving the Los Angeles Angels eight losses in their last eleven games and pushing them to eight games back in the AL West.
Coming into the year with incredibly high expectations, the season has been a mixed bag for Halos fans. While Mike Trout has dominated baseball since May, Dan Haren and Ervin Santana have disappointed all season, the bullpen has absolutely imploded since the All-Star break and sophomore slugger Mark Trumbo's numbers are regressing steadily. Now at just five games over .500, fans must be wondering whether the team will be able to right the ship in time to catch up to the streaking Texas Rangers---or at least surpass the Oakland Athletics.
Signing Greinke at the deadline was supposed to give the Angels the boost they needed to catch up to the Rangers, but the right-hander is still winless in three starts for the Halos and is sporting an unsightly 5.68 ERA. Anaheim now has just forty-two games left to turn things around and play the kind of baseball everyone expected from them at the beginning of the year.
