The Boston Red Sox have acquired right-handed reliever Pedro Beato of the New York Mets as the player to be named later in the Kelly Shoppach trade, reports Keith Law of ESPN.

Beato, 25, has spent most of the year at the Mets Triple-A affiliate, where he put up a 4.14 ERA and 6.6 K/9 in thirty-seven innings. The young right-hander also made seven appearances out of the Mets' bullpen in late July, giving up five runs in just four and a third innings.

Beato has just one full year's experience working out of a major league bullpen, amassing a 4.30 ERA and 5.2 K/9 in sixty-seven innings for New York last season. Still a pre-arbitration player, Beato will be under team control until 2017.

Shoppach, 32, was dealt to the Mets on Tuesday to serve as a back-up option for primary catcher Josh Thole. He will be a free agent at season's end.

Was Shoppach for Beato a fair trade?
