Beato, 25, has spent most of the year at the Mets Triple-A affiliate, where he put up a 4.14 ERA and 6.6 K/9 in thirty-seven innings. The young right-hander also made seven appearances out of the Mets' bullpen in late July, giving up five runs in just four and a third innings.
Beato has just one full year's experience working out of a major league bullpen, amassing a 4.30 ERA and 5.2 K/9 in sixty-seven innings for New York last season. Still a pre-arbitration player, Beato will be under team control until 2017.
Shoppach, 32, was dealt to the Mets on Tuesday to serve as a back-up option for primary catcher Josh Thole. He will be a free agent at season's end.

Was Shoppach for Beato a fair trade?
